Barber Apprentice Course 1
This is a competency-based course designed for the indentured barber apprentice. This is a two year course which covers orientation and safety in the trade, haircuts and hairstyles, shaves, shampoos, rest facials and scalp manipulations.

This course includes hair waving & curling, hair coloring tinting, and hair processing chemical relaxing.

This course also includes entrepreneurship, salesmanship, employ-ability skills and evaluation which includes mock test for the state board exam. The competencies in this course are aligned with the California High School Academic Content Standards and the California Career Technical Education Mode ln Curriculum Standards.

Cosmetology Apprentice Course 1

It's Worth It

Employment of barbers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists is projected to grow 13 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations. Population growth will lead to greater demand for hair care. The simple answer is; yes. A career in this field with a strong client base can result in a steady income for yourself.

Prerequisites

Our minimal prerequisites, this will allow you to evaluate the program(s) for yourself. We want to be as upfront as possible keeping you in mind first. This minimal requirement is set by the Department of Labor Relations, Division of Apprentice Standards (DAS), the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology (BBC), and Local Education Agency (LEA).
  • Be at lease 18 years of age. If you are under 18 you will need a parent or guardian to sign apprentice agreement.
  • Evidence of 10th grade education or equivalent.
  • Have and provide copy of valid social security (SSN) or Tax payer identification (TIN) number.
  • Have and provide a copy of government issued ID.
  • Employer must have workers compensation for apprentice.
  • If Convicted of a Felony academy must receive copy of all records related to arrest, court, parole, and or probation.
  • Never have had a Barber License revoked.
  • Commit to completing 32 (OJT) hours a week (3200 OJT) total and 260 hours of Related Supplemental Instruction in a classroom.
  • (1) Have a trainer (2) a trainer licensed by Board who is willing to teach you, and (3) an establishment licensed by the Board that is willing to allow you to work. Your trainer and establishment cannot have outstanding fines.
